We had the most wonderful Day last Saturday June 13th for World Wide Knit in Public Day at BookEnds Bookstore in Meiners Oaks, Ojai California. Proud to be one of the almost 900 groups in 56 different countries participating this year. This is our first year in Ojai, but the tenth for WWKIPDay. We had 60 women come together, from 8 years old to 88 years old……sharing, laughing, helping each other, teaching each other……fully embodying the official slogan of
“Better Living Through Stitching Together”
Here we are teaching each other……
Thank You so much to Celeste (right) and Marsha, owners of BookEnds Bookstore, for being such gracious hosts. It was the most perfect spot to have this event……and we are so glad to be a part of your wonderful place!
The City of Ojai was abuzz buzz……the bees of Ojai were abuzz buzz……who wouldn’t be with a 1000 flowers dripping from the famous pergola in a stunning array of rainbow colors. Strolling through the pergola gave you beauty, happiness and a joyful giggling heart♥
The people of Ojai certainly enjoyed being enveloped by these beautiful flowers. They came in droves and stayed under the pergola for hours……it did what it was supposed to do……give people beauty, give people joy, give people peace……
On a sadder note……after only three days of this joy, right after Ojai Day ended……for some reason a mob mentality broke out and people of all ages, adults and kids, started tearing the installation down (perhaps for souvenirs) and within an hour it was all gone……down to the last petal……
We choose to remember the beauty and joy it gave to our community in Ojai……
……it sure had a massive impact!
We had a blast for the second year in a row participating in the Ojai Art Detour. From the left you see Scot and I, Shelby Harbison and Barbara Crowder. Not in the photo is Sharon Markley. Hundreds of people showed up to share the weekend with us, our art, our home and studios, our animals……and yummy food!
There’s nothing like community……together!

THANK YOU OJAI
What a great honor to be one 2014’s grant recipients from the Ojai Rotary Club.
Proud to stand side by side wonderful organizations like Help of Ojai and the Nan Talbert Foundation. “One Stitch at a Time-Knitting in Recovery” is being recognized and acknowledged for the work we do using Knitting and Crocheting as tools for healing, compassion and inspiration. We are all Women IN Recovery, Knitting FOR Recovery, and this particular project for the Ojai Valley Family Shelter is to supply all the homeless who walk into one of our shelters with a hat and scarf set. Attached is a letter from the woman who knit them with love. Planting seeds goes a long way, and you never know who might find recovery. We are also knitting Blankets the shelters get to keep……and will hopefully have enough blankets to go around for everybody……in a few years:-)
……become a beautiful blanket consisting of crocheted CareSquares in all shapes and sizes……(yes, all shapes and sizes:-)) and in an array of colors and textures. All the squares are crocheted together and finished with a beautiful crocheted trim around the whole blanket enveloping the warmth of all the squares.
There is a lot of love in each of these squares, along with the courage it takes for these women to conquer something new, the peace and healing that follows when they fall into a rhythm with their hands and their hearts. The joy and laughter and shared stories that arise when we are in this room together for this one single hour. All this transcends into the square, and then connecting them all together… all the different women, all the different yarns, all the different colors, all the different shapes and sizes……into one…..blanket.
Little Handmade Prayers all bundled up together for someone to lay under and feel safe and warm.♥
……and here are the beautiful individual squares each woman helped heal herself with……
It was great to have some of us knitting girls back together again……knitting for a new cause!
This year we will make sure all our homeless in Ojai who visit the shelters during the winter months will receive a hand knit scarf and hat……with a special note from the lady who knit them. A little love goes way beyond what we can imagine! The churches that shelter our homeless will receive blankets the residents can use there. So we are keeping our little hands busy……all the time healing ourselves as we continue on our own journey. We laugh, We cry, We’re silly, We’re serious, We share, We eat, We take care of each other!
……you gotta love it when one of the ladies’ teenage son hangs out with us……I think he can feel the peace and the joy!
My Dear Scot……making sure we are fed and happy……delicious barbecued hamburgers with ALL the fixings!
My Norwegian friend gifted me this beautiful piece……perfect as our Ojai Knitting Group CenterPiece!!!!!!
